The current MU-X runs a 2,700kg or 2,800kg GVM with a 5,900kg GCM and tows 3,500kg braked, but the 1.9 litre sold in 2024 and 2025 drops to 5,500kg and 3,000kg. Pick your year and grade below and the page works it out from Isuzu's own figures.
MU-X RJ (2025 onwards). 18 variants, figures transcribed from the manufacturer's spec sheets.

MU-X RJ (2025 onwards). Payload is GVM minus kerb weight, before you fit anything or put anyone in it.

Isuzu rates the current MU-X to 350kg on the ball with the genuine tow kit fitted. That is generous by class standards, and every kilogram of it comes off a payload that starts at roughly 605kg to 735kg.
The MU-X has been a seven seater since 2014. A full car is 400kg to 500kg of occupants, which on the tighter grades is most of the legal allowance before luggage.
The MU-X is a popular tourer and the usual fit-out lands 250kg or more on a payload that is smaller than the car looks. Isuzu does publish front and rear axle ratings, 1,450kg and 1,650kg on the current car, so the axle checks on this page are real published limits rather than estimates.
On the 2024 and 2025 sheets the 1.9 litre RZ4E carries a 5,500kg GCM, 3,000kg braked towing and a 300kg tow ball against 5,900kg, 3,500kg and 350kg for the 3.0. Same body, 500kg less combined mass. The 2.2 litre that replaces it on the 25.5MY sheet gets the full figures back, so a 2025 MU-X and a 2025.5 MU-X with the small engine are not the same vehicle on paper.
Up to the 16MY sheet Isuzu published a tare mass only, the unladen vehicle with 10 litres of fuel, and no payload row at all. From February 2017 it published tare, kerb and payload. From the RJ in 2021 it deleted the tare row and publishes kerb only. On a pre-2017 MU-X the payload this page shows is optimistic by roughly a full tank, and we flag that on those rows rather than converting Isuzu's number.
What Isuzu publishes is a roof rail accessory limit, 60kg on the first generation and 100kg on the current one. That is a limit on the rails, not a vehicle roof load rating, so we leave the roof field blank. If you are fitting a platform, get the number in writing.
Isuzu's braked towing and tow ball numbers apply when the vehicle is fitted with the genuine Isuzu UTE tow kit. A different hitch can carry a different rating, and it is the lower of the two that binds.
MY2013, the launch year, is not here: no Isuzu document from 2013 exists in the archive. The January 2014 sheet publishes no axle ratings, so those stay blank on 2014. There is no 24.5MY sheet, and no Isuzu mass table for an MU-X X-Terrain before the 25MY sheet, so neither is published.
3,500kg braked on the current 3.0 litre and on the 2.2 litre from the 25.5MY sheet, 3,000kg on the 1.9 litre sold in 2024 and 2025, and 3,000kg on every first-generation MU-X up to 2021.
2,700kg on the current 4x2 and 2,800kg on the 4x4. The first generation is 2,650kg 4x2 and 2,750kg 4x4.
Roughly 605kg to 735kg on the current car depending on grade and engine. On pre-2017 cars Isuzu published no payload at all, only a tare mass, so treat those numbers with care and weigh the vehicle.
Yes, 1,350kg front and 1,600kg rear on the first generation from the January 2015 sheet, and 1,450kg front and 1,650kg rear across the current RJ. That makes the rear axle check on this site a published limit for an MU-X, not an estimate.
Isuzu has never published one. The 60kg and 100kg figures you see are limits on the factory roof rails, not a vehicle roof load rating, so we leave the field blank.
