KGM Musso towing capacity, GVM and payload

The Musso, formerly the SsangYong, tows 3,500kg with a high GCM. Payload runs from around 790kg to just over a tonne, and the long tub XLV gives more deck length than most.

Musso Q200 (current). 6 variants, figures transcribed from the manufacturer's spec sheets.

What eats your payload on a Musso

Canopy on the XLV's longer tub

The XLV body gives you more deck than most utes in this class, which is exactly what tempts people into a bigger canopy. Deck length is not payload, and the extra body work costs weight before you load anything.

Touring gear and water

With payload starting under 800kg on some variants, a tank of water and a fridge is a real share of the budget rather than a rounding error.

Tow ball weight

350kg maximum download, and about what a large van will put on the ball. On a sub-tonne payload that is a big commitment.

Musso specifics worth knowing

Some variants are under three tonnes GVM

Not every Musso has a 3,000kg plus GVM. The range spans a few hundred kilos, which can affect licensing and access in ways buyers do not always expect, so check the figure for the exact variant.

KGM does not publish axle ratings

No front or rear ratings appear in the spec document, so those fields stay blank. Axle loads shown by the calculator are modelled from your build's weight distribution and labelled as estimates.

The badge changed, the vehicle did not

SsangYong became KGM. Older Mussos are the same lineage under a different name, so if you are comparing against an earlier brochure, make sure you are reading the right generation's figures.

KGM Musso questions

What is the towing capacity of a KGM Musso?

3,500kg braked, with a GCM in the 6.4 to 6.7 tonne region depending on variant, which is generous for the class.

What is the payload of a Musso?

Between roughly 790kg and just over a tonne. The XLV long tub variants and the standard tub differ, so select the exact variant above.

What is the difference between the Musso and the Musso XLV?

The XLV has a longer tub and a longer wheelbase. It gives you more deck space, not more payload, and the two bodies have different weights.

Does the Musso publish axle load ratings?

Not in the spec sheets we hold, so we leave those blank rather than estimating them. The calculator models axle loads for this vehicle and tells you they are estimates.

Is the KGM Musso the same as the SsangYong Musso?

Yes, the brand was renamed. The vehicle lineage is continuous, but check that you are reading the correct model year's figures.
