Ford Everest payload, GVM and towing capacity

The current Everest tows 3,500kg braked, but its GCM is only 6,250kg, so at full GVM you cannot legally tow the number on the brochure. Pick your year and grade below and the page does the combined-weight sum from Ford's own figures.

Everest U704 (2026). 11 variants, figures transcribed from the manufacturer's spec sheets.

What eats your payload on a Everest

Tow ball weight from a caravan

Ford does not publish a maximum tow ball download for the Everest anywhere, but its own payload footnote says ball weight comes out of payload. A 3,500kg van commonly puts 300kg or more on the ball, and on a wagon with 650kg to 740kg to play with that is close to half your allowance.

Seven seats of people

Every U704 Everest is a seven seater. A full car is 400kg to 500kg of occupants, and Ford's payload figure assumes none of them are aboard.

Roof platform and rack

Ford published a roof load for the Everest exactly once, in the September 2017 brochure, 100kg on most grades and 80kg on the Titanium with its panoramic roof. No later brochure prints one, so we leave the field blank rather than carrying an eight-year-old figure forward. If you are loading the roof of a newer Everest, get the limit in writing from Ford or your rack maker.

Everest specifics worth knowing

Every U704 Everest is GCM-limited well below its tow rating

GCM is 6,250kg on the whole range and 6,350kg on the Tremor. A V6 Platinum at its 3,150kg GVM leaves 3,100kg for the trailer, so the advertised 3,500kg braked capacity is only available if you keep the Everest itself under GVM. That is the single most useful thing to know before you hitch up, and it is the check this page runs for you.

The V6 grades carry a different GVM to the 2.0 litre

Ford publishes GVM 3,000kg on the 2.0 litre rear-drive, 3,100kg on the 2.0 litre four-wheel drive, 3,150kg on the V6 and 3,240kg on the Tremor, which also gets a 1,530kg front axle where the rest of the range is 1,470kg. Two Everests in the same car park can have a 240kg difference in what they are allowed to weigh.

Ford changed how it measures kerb weight, twice

The label says Kerb Weight throughout, but the footnote does not. On U704 sheets from 2022 to 2025.50 the figure includes the heaviest possible combination of factory fitted options, and Ford even titles the payload row Payload based on Max Kerb Weight. On the MY2026.50 sheet it reverts to with all standard equipment, which is why the same nameplate reads 30kg to 70kg lighter. Same car, different ruler. We publish each printing as printed and flag it on the row.

No tow ball download, ever

Ford Australia has never printed a maximum tow ball download for the Everest, in either generation. We leave it blank rather than borrowing the Ranger's figure. If you need a number for a compliance conversation, ask your Ford dealer to put it in writing.

The 2015 to mid-2017 UA is missing on purpose

There is no Ford Australia PDF for the pre-facelift UA Everest, so MY2015, MY2016 and MY2017.00 would have to be filled in from magazine numbers. We would rather show a gap. The 2023.00 model year and the 2023 to 2024 Wildtrak are blank for the same reason: the brochures that cover them print no mass table.

Ford Everest questions

What is the towing capacity of a Ford Everest?

3,500kg braked on every U704 (2022 onwards). The earlier UA II tows 3,000kg with the 3.2 litre and 3,100kg with the 2.0 litre Bi-Turbo. On the current car the GCM, not the tow rating, is what stops you.

What is the GVM of a Ford Everest?

3,000kg on the 2.0 litre rear-drive, 3,100kg on the 2.0 litre 4WD, 3,150kg on the V6 and 3,240kg on the Tremor. The older UA II is 2,950kg rear-drive and 3,100kg 4WD.

Can an Everest tow 3,500kg fully loaded?

No. With a 6,250kg GCM and a 3,150kg GVM on the V6, towing 3,500kg leaves 2,750kg for the vehicle, which is 400kg under its own GVM. Choose your grade above and this page shows exactly how much you have to give up.

How much can a Ford Everest carry?

Roughly 640kg to 860kg depending on grade, model year and which of Ford's two kerb-weight definitions applied that year, and that is before tow ball weight. Pick your variant and the calculator does the subtraction.

What is the roof load limit on a Ford Everest?

Ford published 100kg (80kg on the Titanium) in the September 2017 brochure and has not printed a roof load in any brochure since. We do not carry that figure forward to newer cars.
