LandCruiser 200 payload, GVM and towing capacity

Every 200 Series carries a 3,350kg GVM and tows 3,500kg braked, so payload comes down to which grade and which year you have. Pick the year and variant below and the page works it out from Toyota's own figures.

LandCruiser 200 (2020-2021 run-out, diesel only). 4 variants, figures transcribed from the manufacturer's spec sheets.

What eats your payload on a LandCruiser 200

Tow ball weight from a big van

A 3,500kg caravan commonly puts 300kg or more down on the ball, and all of it counts against the 200's payload, not the trailer's. On a wagon that starts with 610kg to 765kg to play with, that is close to half the allowance gone before the family gets in.

Seven or eight seats of people

The GXL and VX petrol were sold as eight seaters and the diesel VX and Sahara as sevens. A full car is 400kg to 500kg of occupants, which on a 200 is most of what it can legally carry.

Long range tank, bar work and drawers

The classic 200 touring build adds weight at both ends and a 180 litre replacement tank is another 130kg of fuel when it is full. Toyota publishes no axle ratings for this model, so the calculator models axle loads and labels them as estimates.

LandCruiser 200 specifics worth knowing

There is no published GCM before October 2018

Toyota did not print a Gross Combination Mass for the 200 Series until the October 2018 spec table, where it appears as 6,850kg. On a 2013 to 2017 car we leave GCM blank rather than reading that figure backwards, so the combined weight check only runs on the later years. If you tow heavy in an earlier 200, get the number off your own compliance plate and your towbar.

The GX kerb weight jumps around at the facelift

Toyota published the GX diesel at 2,635kg in 2013 and 2014, then 2,740kg for every grade in the October 2015 facelift brochure, then back to 2,640kg from November 2016. We publish each model year as its document printed it rather than smoothing the line. On a car this age, weigh it or read the compliance plate.

Some years and specials are missing on purpose

Model years 2007 to 2010 are not here, because no Toyota Australia spec sheet from that era survives in the archive. Nor are the Altitude or the Sahara Horizon, and for 2011 and 2012 only the GX is listed. We would rather show a gap than hand you a number we cannot point at a Toyota document for.

Toyota LandCruiser 200 questions

What is the towing capacity of a LandCruiser 200?

3,500kg braked and 750kg unbraked across the range. From the October 2018 spec table on, a 6,850kg GCM caps the vehicle and trailer together, so towing at 3,500kg leaves well under the full payload available in the car.

What is the GVM of a LandCruiser 200?

3,350kg on every grade and every model year we have a Toyota document for, 2011 through to the end of the run in 2021.

How much can a 200 Series carry?

Between roughly 610kg and 765kg depending on grade and model year, before tow ball weight. Choose your variant above and the calculator does the subtraction for your build.

Can you put a roof rack load on a 200 Series?

Yes. Toyota publishes a 200kg maximum roof load for the LandCruiser 200, which is unusually generous and one of the few models here where the roof figure comes straight from the maker. It still counts against your GVM.

Does Toyota publish axle ratings or a tow ball limit for the 200?

No, not in any spec sheet or brochure we could source, so those fields stay blank on this site rather than being estimated.
